Serbian Democratic Party (DS) President Srđan Milivojević has accused the Serbian government of enabling organized crime, claiming that the country has effectively become a major narcotics and criminal hub in Europe.
Milivojević stated that since Marko Kričak assumed leadership of Serbia’s Criminal Police Directorate, the country has “officially become a narcotics center of Europe and a European champion in organized crime.” He added that mafia-related violence, including bomb attacks in Belgrade, has become a routine occurrence.
According to Milivojević, recent bomb attacks targeting hospitality venues in central Belgrade, as well as private homes of prominent individuals, are no longer isolated incidents, but rather symptoms of a system that has allegedly protected organized crime for over a decade. He argued that violence has been normalized while institutions responsible for combating crime have failed to act effectively.
Milivojević further delivered sharp criticism of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, alleging that Vučić has created an environment in which criminal networks exert significant influence over police and security structures. He claimed that criminal figures operate without fear, live in luxury, and openly display wealth while the government publicly claims to be fighting crime.
He also alleged that organized crime has flourished under Vučić’s rule, arguing that rival criminal factions are now engaged in open violent confrontations, including bomb attacks, in full view of the public. Milivojević warned that public safety is seriously endangered and accused authorities of losing control over instability they allegedly helped create.
Milivojević concluded by calling for urgent political change, describing the current government as a “mafia-style regime.” He highlighted the growing influence of Serbia’s student protest movement, claiming it represents a realistic opportunity to dismantle what he described as a criminal political system. He urged citizens who are not aligned with rival political factions to support student-backed political initiatives, emphasizing the need to restore security and democratic governance in Serbia.
