American Congressman Keith Self has emphasized that Kosovo’s membership in NATO would play a crucial role in strengthening stability in the Western Balkans, during a roundtable discussion with Albanian-American lawmakers in the U.S. Congress.

Self stressed that Kosovo’s integration into the alliance should be considered a strategic priority, describing it as a key factor in maintaining regional security and balance.

Kosovo’s NATO Membership Seen as Stabilizing Force

“I am seeking balance in the Balkans. I want balance in the Balkans, and I believe that one of the key elements – and something I have taken as a personal mission – is Kosovo’s membership in NATO, which would be an extraordinarily stabilizing force in the region,” Self stated.

He further noted that progress toward NATO integration requires addressing and overcoming opposition from certain member states, highlighting the importance of diplomatic engagement and political coordination.

Concerns Over Regional Security

The congressman warned that the Balkans remain a sensitive and potentially volatile region, describing it as a “powder keg” that requires careful political and security management. According to him, advancing Kosovo’s NATO membership would contribute significantly to long-term peace and stability.

Self’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about regional security, Euro-Atlantic integration, and geopolitical tensions affecting Southeast Europe.
