The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, announced that he held a meeting today with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, following an invitation from the head of state.

According to Abdixhiku, President Osmani briefed him on the Peace Board initiative, for which he expressed LDK’s full support. He emphasized that strengthening peace, alliances—particularly with the United States—and Kosovo’s international role should remain national priorities.

“I expressed to President Osmani the full support of the Democratic League of Kosovo for this initiative. Strengthening peace, alliances, especially with the United States, and Kosovo’s international role must be our priority. LDK remains committed to the Euro-Atlantic orientation and close cooperation with our strategic allies,” Abdixhiku stated.

Discussions on Political Developments

During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed recent political developments in Kosovo. The talks come at a crucial time, as the constitutional deadline for the election of Kosovo’s next president has begun to approach.

President Osmani has publicly expressed her intention to seek another mandate, though it remains uncertain whether she will secure sufficient political support from parliamentary parties.

Mixed Signals from LDK

While Abdixhiku voiced support for Osmani’s peace-related initiatives, internal divisions within LDK regarding her potential re-election have already surfaced. Former Prime Minister and senior LDK figure Avdullah Hoti has publicly stated that he would not vote in favor of Osmani’s reappointment as president, signaling possible political challenges ahead.

The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as political parties negotiate positions that will shape the leadership and institutional direction of Kosovo.
