On the third day of closing statements at the Special Court in The Hague, attorney Lluka Mishetiq, representing former President Hashim Thaçi, sharply criticized the Prosecution.
Mishetiq told the judges that he finds it problematic that the entire case file of the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) disregards evidence that discredits its claims and arguments.
“When reviewing and analyzing the SPO’s final submissions, it is as if one is reading a chronicle or analysis of a film written by someone who hasn’t seen the film,” Mishetiq said.
He began his statement by reiterating that former Kosovo President Thaçi is innocent, emphasizing that this presumption of innocence should be the starting point for the court’s decision.
“When you begin your deliberations, you should start from the position that Hashim Thaçi is innocent and then assess whether the evidence presented by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office has convinced you, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Hashim Thaçi is guilty,” Mishetiq told the judges.
