After several rounds of voting in the conclave gathered at the Vatican, the cardinals of the Catholic Church have elected the successor to Pope Francis.

On Thursday afternoon, just after 6:00 PM, white smoke emerging from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel confirmed to the world that a new Pope had been chosen.

The new Pope will now be taken to a small room near the Sistine Chapel, where he will put on the white papal vestments.
