Russia has lost 1,588,180 troops in Ukraine since launching its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the report, Russian forces suffered another 1,670 casualties in the past 24 hours alone.
Russia has also reportedly lost 12,450 tanks, 25,620 armored combat vehicles, 168,480 vehicles and fuel tankers, 51,739 artillery systems, 2,247 multiple-launch rocket systems, 1,730 air defense systems, 452 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 3,045 unmanned ground vehicles, 35 ships and other naval vessels, as well as two submarines.
The Ukrainian General Staff has not released figures on its own military losses, citing operational security. However, reports from independent Western research institutions estimate that Russian casualties are significantly higher than Ukrainian losses.
According to a January 2026 report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Ukraine may have suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 through December 2025, including an estimated 100,000 to 140,000 soldiers killed in combat.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told France TV that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the war, while a considerable number remain missing.
The intensity of drone attacks and ongoing combat has made it extremely difficult for Ukraine to recover the bodies of fallen soldiers, which are needed to confirm their identities through DNA testing.
