Ukraine has reported at least 22 deaths following Russian attacks on Tuesday, including 12 killed in one of the most severe strikes so far this year, as deadlines approach for proposed ceasefire initiatives.

Russia announced a temporary ceasefire for May 8–9, coinciding with its Victory Day commemorations marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, including a military parade in Moscow.

In response, Ukraine proposed an open-ended ceasefire starting at midnight on Wednesday and urged Russia to reciprocate. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it was unacceptable for Russia to pause attacks only for its own military celebrations while continuing strikes on Ukraine.

At least 12 people were killed in the city of Zaporizhzhia, according to emergency services on Telegram. Regional governor Ivan Fedorov said at least 16 others were injured.

Residential buildings, a car repair shop, and a car wash were damaged in the attack, with fires also reported at a shop and an unspecified business.

Separately, in Russia, a Ukrainian drone strike in the Chuvashia region reportedly killed two people, according to Russian state media.
