The Central Election Commission (CEC) will prepare a special report following the recount of 185 regular polling stations whose ballots had previously been counted in 38 Municipal Counting Centers, reports Ekonomia Online.
The report will document the findings of the recount, including any differences between the original count and the recount results from these polling stations.
Speaking at a press conference from the Counting and Results Center (CRC), where the recount is currently taking place, CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi was asked whether the recount could delay the announcement of the final election results.
“The Central Election Commission is technically ready to announce the final results of the June 7 elections. However, according to the Law on General Elections, we must wait to see whether there will be complaints regarding the administration of the counting process from the last day of activities at the Counting and Results Center.
In the best-case scenario, if there are no complaints, the CEC can proceed with announcing the final results. If there are complaints, the CEC will wait for decisions from the Electoral Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) and the Supreme Court, implement their decisions if they require any action from the CEC, and only then proceed with announcing the final results.
Naturally, before announcing the final results, the CEC will review the findings that emerge from the recount process. This means that after the recount is completed, a detailed report on all identified findings will be prepared. The report will be presented to CEC members for review and decision-making. Depending on the findings and recommendations included in the report, the CEC will decide on the next steps,” Elezi said.
He also stated that the recount of the 185 polling stations is expected to be completed within two days.
“Based on the pace of work currently taking place at the Counting and Results Center, we believe that within two days the recount of all these polling stations will be completed,” he said.
