The European Union has once again called for the suspension of demolitions of buildings near Lake Ujman, which Kosovo authorities say were constructed without permits.
EU officials reiterated their concern over the ongoing demolitions, urging Kosovo’s institutions to halt all further actions until the competent courts issue a final ruling on the pending property claims.
“We regret the demolition of homes, particularly as property claims are still under judicial review. The EU calls on Kosovo’s institutions to stop any further demolitions and to work with affected residents and local authorities to find lawful and sustainable solutions. Any irreversible action, including demolition, should be suspended until the competent court has delivered a final decision on the outstanding claims,” said Anitta Hipper, spokesperson for the European Union.
This marks the second time within a week that the EU has publicly called for a halt to the demolitions near Lake Ujman.
Last week, the EU Office in Prishtina also raised concerns, noting that the demolitions were taking place while affected residents had already initiated legal proceedings challenging the demolition orders. According to the EU, due legal process should be respected until the courts have reached a final decision.
