The European Union will completely end imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027, drastically reduce oil imports from Russia, intensify action against Russia’s shadow fleet, and significantly cut dependence on Russia in the nuclear sector, including restricting the supply of enriched uranium, according to Gazeta Sinjali.

This was announced by EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen during a presentation in Strasbourg.

Jørgensen stated that the EU aims to eliminate all energy imports from Russia, outlining a timeline to cease Russian gas purchases by the end of 2027.

“Next month, in June 2025, the European Commission will present formal legislative proposals, based on a clear roadmap,” Jørgensen added.

This strategy marks a pivotal step in reducing Europe’s strategic energy dependency on Moscow amid ongoing efforts to curtail the financial means sustaining Russia’s war in Ukraine.
