Denis MacShane, former British Minister for Europe, has spoken about Serbia’s plans in North Kosovo.
MacShane states that these provocations are unfortunately part of Serbian policy, which is preparing new attacks similar to those that occurred last September in Banjska.
“I mean, the clear fact is that everyone knows what happened: paramilitaries first came from North Kosovo, from the Serbian areas in North Kosovo, organized an attack, and people were killed. Yes, people will accept this as a definite truth; unfortunately, these provocations are partly part of Serbian policy,” he said.
In his recent experience in Brezovica, MacShane showed that Albanians and Serbs there have lived well together. However, despite this, Serbia is doing everything to seize North Kosovo.
“Serbia cannot ultimately accept its humiliation from defeat. Like it or not, many people in Serbia still see Kosovo in the way France saw Algeria 60-70 years ago, or the way Britain saw Ireland 100 years ago,” he said.
For Denis MacShane, Kosovo is seen by the Serbian government as an inseparable part of it, “and unfortunately, no bridge of communication has yet been found between the two countries.”
“And we have not found anyone on the Kosovo side who could perhaps establish communication. I know this is a big ask because everyone in Kosovo, rightly, sees themselves as victims, and Serbs must be punished. But, if this language of punishment and revenge continues, I fear there will be no solution or peace,” said the former British minister.
