Shukri Buja, the first commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) to be acquitted by The Hague, shared his emotional experience facing the Special Court.

Buja emphasized that the court’s verdict, declaring him innocent, was an indescribable joy, as it confirmed the righteousness of his actions during the liberation struggle.

“It was an indescribable joy, because the truth was being proven by a court established by the Kosovo Parliament. All investigations have been dropped, and there can be no further charges for war crimes,” Buja said.

The former commander appealed for the release of other former KLA leaders still held in The Hague. He stressed that the war of the Albanians was a just struggle for the liberation of the country, not a war for power.

“We were anxious about whether it would be proven that we fought a liberation war. My fellow comrades shouldn’t remain imprisoned there. We are interested in seeing this process come to an end, and for the baseless accusations to be dropped, as we did not fight for power or ideology, but for liberation,” he added. /Euronews
