The Basic Court in Gjakova has ordered 30 days of detention for four Serbian nationals arrested last week, suspected of illegal weapons possession.
The suspects, identified by initials B.R., N.V., P.K., and M.S., initially presented themselves as pilgrims visiting Orthodox monasteries in Kosovo. However, it was later revealed that two of them hold official ranks in Serbian security institutions — one as a police lieutenant and the other as an army captain. The remaining two are also confirmed employees of Serbian security bodies.
According to the prosecution’s request, on April 5, 2025, the defendants were stopped on “Gasper Karaqi” street in Gjakova while driving a gray Toyota vehicle that had been speeding. During a routine check, officers asked if they were carrying anything illegal. Although the driver initially denied it, a voluntary search of the car uncovered a hatchet, a sheathed knife, and a serrated knife.
Authorities argue the weapons were carried unlawfully during an organized visit to several Orthodox monasteries in Kosovo, violating the country’s arms laws.
Judge Samedin Cena justified the pre-trial detention order citing the risk of the suspects either repeating the offense or fleeing. The 30-day detention is calculated from the date of arrest, April 5, and will last until May 5, 2025.
