A large police presence has been deployed across parts of Germany following a double homicide that occurred Saturday in the central state of Hesse, authorities reported.

According to police, two men were found shot dead in front of a residential property late Saturday afternoon. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds, prompting a nationwide manhunt.

A “large contingent of forces” has been mobilized in the search for one or more suspects still at large. The operation includes uniformed officers, plainclothes police, special forces, and helicopters.

Despite the serious nature of the crime, police emphasized that “there is currently no danger to the public.” Authorities have not yet disclosed the circumstances or motives behind the killings.

The police and public prosecutor’s office have launched an official investigation.
