The chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, has commented on the failed session to elect the Speaker of the Assembly, emphasizing that it is reasonable to discuss with opposition parties about proposing a different candidate for the post.

Haradinaj stated that if Vetëvendosje (VV) does not have enough support for Albulena Haxhiu, then a more unifying candidate should be considered.

He stressed that AAK has already put forward several proposals and remains open to broader discussion in order to overcome the political deadlock and move forward with forming the government.

“I didn’t see any real negotiations for the Speaker. If opposition votes are needed, then it makes sense to discuss the candidate with the opposition as well—perhaps one more consensual than Haxhiu. We’ve made some proposals and mentioned names. We’re open if parties want to find a way forward, to go beyond just constituting the Assembly so that the clock for forming a government can start,” said Haradinaj.

He further added:

“If you need votes from other parties, you can’t be completely closed off. We need to discuss the candidate. If VV doesn’t have the votes for its own candidate, then we should find a more unifying one.”
