Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has expressed her condolences to the Kryeziu family following the death of Eqrem Kryeziu, describing him as a prominent intellectual, professor and public figure who left a lasting mark on Kosovo.
Haxhiu said Kryeziu belonged to a generation whose commitment to the country was built on knowledge, responsibility and public service.
She highlighted his more than five decades of work in education, literature and academia, noting that even throughout his political career, he remained known for his independent thinking, direct style and distinctive sense of irony.
Kryeziu was particularly associated with Prizren, where he played an important role in the city’s political life and served as mayor during the early years of post-war local governance. He later continued his political engagement in the Assembly of Kosovo.
According to Haxhiu, however, his legacy extends far beyond the positions he held.
“Eqrem Kryeziu will be remembered as a professor, intellectual and distinguished public figure with a strong individual character, who left a lasting impact on the political and cultural life of Kosovo,” Haxhiu said.
She extended her condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, associates, the citizens of Prizren and everyone who knew and respected him.
“May the memory of Prof. Dr. Eqrem Kryeziu remain eternal.”
