The Central Bank of Iran says it has received a deposit from a tax imposed by Iran on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Iranian news agency Fars, which is linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

This follows a statement from Iranian Deputy Parliament Speaker Hamidreza Haji Babaei earlier, who said the first revenues from the tax had been deposited into the central bank, according to a BBC report cited by Gazeta Express.

Fars reported, quoting the bank, that the deposit was made in cash. It is not known who paid the fee or how much it amounted to.

U.S. President Donald Trump has previously threatened to target any vessel paying Iran a fee for using the strait.
