On April 12, 2025, Israel announced that its military had successfully established a new security corridor in the Gaza Strip, taking full control of the southern city of Rafah. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) completed the takeover of the Morag axis, which separates Rafah from Khan Yunis, creating a larger Israeli-controlled security zone in Gaza. Palestinians in these areas have been ordered to evacuate as the IDF continues its military operations to dismantle Hamas infrastructure. The expansion of the security corridor is part of Israel’s ongoing military strategy to pressure Hamas and end the ongoing war, with the IDF warning of increased operations throughout Gaza. This escalation follows the end of a ceasefire and significant casualties on both sides.
