Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has warned that Russia does not seek peace in Ukraine and cannot be trusted to advance such an objective. Her statement comes just before a highly anticipated phone call between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin—a conversation that European leaders are closely monitoring.

“Russia will use this opportunity to present all sorts of demands, and what we already see is that they are setting their final objectives,” Kallas stated after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday afternoon.

Her remarks were a response to Putin’s noncommittal stance on the White House’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. While Kyiv has accepted the proposal, Putin has demanded clarification on key aspects, including whether Western military aid to Ukraine would continue.

“Will mobilization continue in Ukraine during these 30 days? Will weapons still be supplied? Do they need this time to train newly mobilized units, or will none of this happen?” Putin questioned at a recent press conference.

As Trump and Putin prepare for direct talks, European leaders remain skeptical about Russia’s intentions, with Kallas reiterating that Moscow’s demands align with its long-term strategic goals rather than genuine efforts toward peace.
