Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Acting President Albulena Haxhiu hosted a high-level U.S. Congressional delegation in Pristina on Wednesday. The meetings focused heavily on deepening defense capabilities, cementing bilateral trade, and accelerating Euro-Atlantic integration ahead of Kosovo’s parliamentary snap elections on June 7.
The visiting bipartisan delegation consisted of Representative Keith Self (R-TX), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, and Representative Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA), a member of the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs committees.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti on Sovereign Integration: “Kosovo is heavily investing in its sovereign defense infrastructure while aligning 100% with Western foreign policy. Our long-term security relies on a deepening partnership with the United States. We are rapidly expanding our technological, economic, and commercial cooperation to match our shared democratic values.”

Haxhiu emphasized that formal integration into NATO is not a passive diplomatic milestone, but a core, non-negotiable prerequisite for enduring peace across the Western Balkans. She commended Rep. Self for his vocal advocacy regarding regional stability and highlighted the economic possibilities tied to Rep. Subramanyam’s focus on technological innovation and cybersecurity.
Reciprocity and Minority Rights in the Preševo Valley
A core geopolitical talking point during the delegation’s visit was the current status of ethnic Albanians living in neighboring Serbia.
Prior to arriving in Pristina, the U.S. representatives conducted a fact-finding tour of the Preševo Valley. Seizing on their field observations, Prime Minister Kurti re-emphasized his administration’s stance on regional equity:
Kurti on Regional Minority Frameworks: “Stability in the Western Balkans requires a balanced framework. There must be comparable, mirroring rights for ethnic minorities across all nations in the region, ensuring that Albanians in the Preševo Valley enjoy the same institutional protections seen elsewhere.”
The congressional visit comes at a defining moment for Kosovo’s domestic political landscape. With the official 9-day electoral campaign launching tomorrow, both Kurti and Haxhiu utilized the high-profile American presence to demonstrate their administration’s deep ties with Washington to the voting public.
