Kosovo has concluded its historic participation in the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games with a record nine medals — two gold, three silver and four bronze.
At the closing ceremony, Kosovo’s flag was proudly carried by karate gold medalist Islam Selmani and karateist Fortesa Orana, marking the end of a record-breaking campaign for the Kosovo delegation.
The two gold medals came from Islam Selmani in karate and Donjeta Sadiku in boxing.
Kosovo also secured three silver medals. Laura Fazliu won silver in judo, while Kianoush Rostami claimed two silver medals in weightlifting, representing Kosovo after previously competing for Iran.
The four bronze medals were won by Kosovo’s judokas Akil Gjakova, Shpati Zekaj, Fatjona Kasapi and Flaka Loxha, with judo once again proving to be one of Kosovo’s strongest sports.
Kosovo sent 163 athletes to Taranto, and nine of them returned home with medals — setting a new national record at the Mediterranean Games. Kosovo previously won four medals in Tarragona in 2018 and six in Oran in 2022.
The closing ceremony also carried special significance for Kosovo: Prishtina will host the next edition of the Mediterranean Games in 2030.
From the boxing ring to the tatami and weightlifting platform, Kosovo’s athletes once again showed that a small country can make a big impact on the international sporting stage.
Nine medals. A new record. Two champions. And a flag carried with pride. 🇽🇰
Taranto 2026 ends. Prishtina 2030 awaits.
