Kurti Highlights Importance of Securing EU Candidate Status in Meeting with European Council President

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated during a meeting with the President of the European Council that Kosovo has achieved significant progress in reforms, democracy, and economic development, emphasizing improvements in the rule of law, anti-corruption efforts, media freedom, and democratic processes, alongside sustained economic growth.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Kurti thanked the European Council President for the contribution of the European Union as Kosovo’s largest donor, noting that this support has helped strengthen institutions and promote European values throughout the country.

He also stressed that the European Union remains Kosovo’s key development partner and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing reforms stemming from the Growth Plan and other pre-accession instruments, underlining the importance of Kosovo obtaining EU candidate status.

The meeting also addressed cooperation with EU institutions, security issues, and the importance of good-neighborly relations in advancing regional cooperation.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Kurti highlighted that Kosovo is fully aligned with the European Union’s foreign policy, has condemned Russia’s war against Ukraine, and has joined all EU sanctions imposed on Russia.
