Vetëvendosje (LVV) has not withdrawn the nomination of Albulena Haxhiu for the position of Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly.

“The name has not changed,” said Avni Dehari, the presiding officer of the constitutive session, in a response to Radio Free Europe. He also confirmed that no consultative meeting has been called with political parties ahead of the continuation of the constitutive session, scheduled for Friday at 10:00 AM.

No, we’ve already held the consultative meeting. Now we will proceed with the session as planned,” Dehari said.

Political parties previously held a consultative meeting before the session began on Wednesday, but no political agreement was reached on how to overcome the impasse regarding the conclusion of the constitution of the ninth legislature, which resulted from the February 9 elections.

During Wednesday’s session, Albulena Haxhiu failed for the third time to secure the 61 votes needed to be elected as Speaker.

PDK, LDK, and AAK voted against Haxhiu’s election, while three deputies from the Social Democratic Initiative abstained.

PDK and AAK are demanding LVV nominate another candidate, arguing that Haxhiu is not a unifying figure.

Friday marks the sixth attempt to finalize the Assembly’s constitution, a process that began on April 15.

According to the Rules of Procedure, the constitutive session must resume within 48 hours of its adjournment, with no limit on how many times it may be continued. The Assembly is considered constituted only after the Speaker and Deputy Speakers are elected.
