French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed centrist politician François Bayrou as the new Prime Minister, the Élysée Palace announced on Friday, just one week after the collapse of the previous government.

Last Wednesday, the opposition ousted the government of former conservative Prime Minister Michel Barnier due to disagreements over the budget, despite Barnier having been in office for only three months.

France is in a political deadlock after the elections held in June and July failed to produce a clear outcome.

Meanwhile, the country is facing a critical situation in its economy, particularly due to rising public debt and a large budget deficit.

Opposition parties have called for Macron’s resignation amid this economic and political crisis, as the budget for 2025 has still not been approved.

However, Macron has refused to step down.
