A suspected mass grave in Kalludër, Zubin Potok, has raised hopes among the families of missing persons that, after more than two decades of uncertainty, they may finally learn the truth about the fate of their loved ones.
One of them is Erblin Ademi, the son of surgeon Agim Ademi, who disappeared during the Kosovo war.
Agim Ademi was among the 23 people known as the Group of Mitrovica Intellectuals, a group made up of doctors, professors, activists, and citizens from the region. They were last seen in the village of Dreth in Zubin Potok while traveling toward Montenegro, according to RTK.
Today, excavations are taking place in this very area, as there are suspicions that the remains of the missing group may be buried there.
Among those who remain missing is also Idriz Rrecaj, known as the “Great Man of Drenica”, whose fate is still unknown.
The group also included professor Demir Ahmeti, doctor Fatmir Fazliu, Adem Beqiri, Sahit Berani, Hasan Dervari, Ali Haliti, Shaip Ujkani, Faton Ujkani, Mahit Ujkani, Nazim Ujkani, Shkëlzen Ujkani, Tahir Meziu, Sali Meziu, Naser Meziu, Zymer Meziu, Selim Meziu, Shaqir Meziu, Samir Meziu, Bekim Meziu, Xhevdet Meziu, and Xhemail Meziu.
The group, now known as the Group of Mitrovica Intellectuals, was last seen in the area of Dreth and Kalludër, in the municipality of Zubin Potok.
According to testimonies and information collected over the years, they were stopped and abducted by Serbian forces. Since that day, none of them has been found, and their fate has remained unresolved.
For the families, the ongoing excavations represent not only a search for remains, but also a long-awaited search for truth, justice, and closure after 27 years of waiting.
