Minister Hasani in Prague: NATO should not divert attention from the Western Balkans region

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Igli Hasani, participated in the informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers, which took place in Prague (Czech Republic) on May 30-31, 2024.

Hasani reaffirmed Albania’s steadfast commitment to NATO, as he also emphasized the necessity for NATO not to divert its attention from the Western Balkans region, as this contributes to the peace and stability of our region.

“The NATO summit in Washington should give the Western Balkans the attention it deserves, especially in the face of external security challenges. At today’s informal meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Prague, we reaffirmed our unwavering support for a free and sovereign Ukraine and our commitment to strengthening our collective deterrence and defence. Albania remains determined to play its role as an unwavering ally of Euro-Atlantic values”, stressed Minister Hasani, after the meeting, reports the MEPJ of Albania.

The allied ministers addressed the progress of the decisions taken at the Vilnius Summit, which aim for NATO to continue to maintain peace, prevent conflicts and protect the population and values ​​of the allied territory, the priorities of the Washington Summit and especially the continuation of assistance to Ukraine.

The ministers of the allied countries gathered in a single informal session, where they reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine and discussed how they can strengthen further support for Ukraine in the longer term.

This is the last meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers in preparation for the Washington Summit, which also marks the 75th anniversary of the Alliance.
