On Tuesday, North Korea announced that the latest missile it tested is a new hypersonic missile with a medium-range capability, designed to target objectives in the Pacific.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged to expand Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal in order to counter rival nations.

On Monday, South Korea’s military reported observing North Korea launch a missile that flew 1,100 kilometers before landing in waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.

North Korea has demonstrated multiple weapon systems over the past year, some of which could target its neighbors, as well as the United States.

Among the tested weapons were intercontinental ballistic missiles with solid fuel.

In recent years, North Korea has launched and tested various medium-range missiles, which, if perfected, could reach the U.S. military base in Guam.
