Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, strongly reacted to the European Union’s call for citizens to stock up on supplies for at least 72 hours in the event of a war crisis.
In a post on the social media platform “X,” Orban stated that Hungary does not believe in this “madness” and that the country will not allow itself to be dragged into a war.
“The European Commission wants our families to stockpile supplies for 72 hours, but why? Are they preparing for war? Hungary will not be dragged into this madness. We support peace, not endless conflict,” Orban wrote.
He emphasized that he does not see any external military threat to Europe, and that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine will not affect NATO countries such as Hungary, Poland, or the Baltic states.
He also stated that while the U.S. is working towards a ceasefire, “Brussels elites” are doing the opposite, seeking to prolong the conflict.
“America is now on the side of peace. Europe? Still recklessly pushing for war. The U.S. is negotiating a ceasefire, while Brussels elites are planning to prolong the conflict. They are now talking about mandatory recruitment, political witch hunts, and even a parallel NATO marching against us,” he added.
Orban reiterated Hungary’s stance against involvement in the war, saying that his country will support the peace plan proposed by former U.S. President, Donald Trump.
