Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, joined world leaders today at the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis in Vatican City.
In a post on Facebook, President Osmani stated that Pope Francis will be remembered for his dedication to peace, human dignity, and solidarity among nations.
“His legacy in advocating for the poor, defending human rights, and building bridges of friendship between peoples will endure,” Osmani wrote.
The farewell ceremony for Pope Francis, who passed away Monday at the age of 88, took place today in St. Peter’s Square.
Pope Francis was later buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome — an extraordinary and unexpected choice. Built in the 4th century, this basilica is located on one of Rome’s seven historic hills, in the multicultural Esquilino district.
Following his wishes, Pope Francis was laid to rest in a simple coffin, symbolizing his lifelong commitment to humility and modesty.
Santa Maria Maggiore, also the burial site of renowned sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, has seen a surge in visitors and pilgrims in recent years, drawn by its stunning mosaics and Michelangelo-designed features — offering a profound spiritual experience for all who visit.
