The Pentagon has approved supplying Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles after assessing that the move would not deplete U.S. reserves, while leaving the final decision to President Donald Trump.

This decision comes amid a period of heightened global tensions and internal debate within the U.S. administration about the limits of support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff delivered their assessments to the White House earlier this month, shortly before President Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to reports, Zelenskyy has repeatedly asked Washington for weapons that would enable strikes on oil and energy targets deep inside Russian territory.

Tomahawk missiles are long-range precision weapons designed to strike strategic targets at substantial distances. Each missile can carry a powerful explosive warhead and is capable of hitting military bases, ammunition depots, critical energy infrastructure, and command-and-control sites.

Supplying Tomahawks to Ukraine would allow Ukrainian forces to carry out deep strikes on Russian territory without exposing troops on the frontline, increasing Ukraine’s ability to disrupt enemy logistics and supply lines.
