The European Parliament’s rapporteur for Serbia, Croatian MEP Tonino Picula, has called for an impartial investigation into the use of a “sound cannon” during a peaceful student protest in Belgrade.

He stated that the European Union must exert greater pressure on the Serbian authorities and treat this incident as an illegal act.

Picula emphasized that the EU cannot remain silent about such incidents in a candidate country for membership. He expressed concerns about unauthorized operations and the use of the “sound cannon,” adding that there have been reports of medical issues among citizens, which may be a consequence of this system’s use.

Meanwhile, he praised the responsible and composed reaction of the students during the protest.
