President Donald Trump orders airstrikes against ISIS in Somalia, targeting high-ranking militants hiding in caves.

President Donald Trump has announced that he ordered airstrikes against senior members of ISIS in Somalia, targeting militants he described as a direct threat to the United States and its allies.

“These killers, whom we found hiding in caves, were threatening the United States and our allies,” President Trump stated on social media, claiming that the strikes successfully eliminated multiple ISIS operatives without civilian casualties.

The Somali President’s office confirmed awareness of the U.S. operation, acknowledging continued American support in the fight against terrorism. The Somali region of Puntland also thanked international partners for their role in the strikes.

The U.S. Department of Defense stated that initial assessments indicate the strikes significantly weakened ISIS’s operational capabilities in Somalia. President Trump contrasted his swift action with what he called “years of inaction” by the previous administration.

This marks President Trump’s first military intervention in Somalia since returning to office, raising questions about his future approach to U.S. involvement in Africa, particularly as extremist groups like Al-Shabaab continue to pose security challenges.
