Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has overseen the signing of a major $6 billion energy agreement involving Albanian state company ALBGAZ, US-based Venture Global, and Greece’s Aktor LNG.

The 20-year agreement aims to supply Southern Europe with liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States. A key component of the project is the construction of infrastructure in Vlora, where LNG will be imported by ship and regasified for distribution.

The Albanian government also plans to revitalize the Vlora energy hub, including transforming the existing thermal power plant and increasing generation capacity by approximately 250 MW. Additionally, the construction of the Fier–Vlora pipeline will connect the facility to national and regional gas transmission networks.

The Vlora Energy Hub is expected to position Albania as a strategic gateway for energy in the Western Balkans by linking LNG imports with regional markets.

The agreement was signed in the presence of the US Chargé d’Affaires Nancy VanHorn, who highlighted the project as part of advancing the energy agenda of US President Donald Trump.

In a post on X, VanHorn described the deal as a historic commitment that strengthens both energy and national security across the region, emphasizing cooperation between the United States, Albania, and Greece.

Following the signing, Rama described the agreement as historic, underlining that it reinforces Albania’s partnership with the United States and enhances its role in regional energy security.

“Vlora will become a critical energy point in Southeast Europe,” Rama stated.
