On the 26th anniversary of the Reçak massacre, the European Union Office in Kosovo stated that justice and accountability for the crimes committed in this village have been delayed.
In a post on “X,” the EU Office in Kosovo paid tribute to all the victims of the massacre.
“Today, we stand in solidarity with the families and people of Kosovo to honour and remember the victims of the Reçak massacre, a heinous crime that left an unhealed wound 26 years on. Their lives were brutally taken, and justice and accountability remain overdue,” the post reads.
The Reçak massacre was followed by NATO bombings targeting Serbian sites in Kosovo and Serbia.
21 years ago, 45 unarmed Albanians were brutally killed and massacred in Reçak. This genocide shocked the international community.
Ambassador William Walker described the event in Reçak as a crime against humanity.
During the 1998/99 Kosovo war, over 13,000 civilians were killed, and thousands more went missing. More than 1,600 people remain missing to this day, the majority of them Albanians.
