Special Prosecution issues indictment for war crimes against an individual, suspected of torturing around 500 citizens and mass expulsions

The Special Prosecution has today filed an indictment against the defendant S.L. for the alleged commission of the criminal offense “War crime against the civilian population,” as defined by Article 142 in relation to Article 22 of the Criminal Code of the former SFRY.

According to the indictment, the criminal acts were committed during the period of 1998-1999 in the village of Panorc, Municipality of Malishevë.

“The defendant, acting in collaboration with other members of the Serbian police and military forces, violated international law by carrying out illegal arrests, physical and psychological torture of around 500 civilians who were not involved in the conflict, mass expulsions of the Albanian population, destruction of property, and theft.”

The defendant is currently under detention pending a further court decision. This criminal case has now been transferred to the Special Department of the Basic Court in Prishtina.
