Following the certification of the final results of the June 7 parliamentary elections by the Central Election Commission (CEC), the 30-day constitutional deadline for the constitution of the new legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo has officially entered into force.
According to constitutional provisions, lawmakers must complete the process of constituting the Assembly no later than August 7, a deadline that stems from the official certification of the election results.
So far, the winning political entity, the Lëvizja Vetëvendosje, has not announced any concrete initiative for the formation of the new institutions, while other political parties have also not indicated any changes to their positions regarding possible cooperation.
Meanwhile, Kosovo’s Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has not yet set the date for the constitutive session, but has stated that it will be called within the timeframe required by the Constitution.
Based on Article 66 of the Constitution of Kosovo and interpretations by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, the constitution of the Assembly does not refer only to holding the first session, but also requires the completion of all necessary procedures, including verification of mandates, the swearing-in of deputies, and the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly.
