Ukrainian MP Oleksej Gonçarenko called the vote of the Parliamentary Assembly in favor of Kosovo in the Council of Europe a historic decision. In a Skype connection with Bruna Çiflig’s Diary on A2 CNN, he said that this means that there will be no more gray areas in Europe and he hopes to finalize this decision in the Council of Ministers.
“This is a very important historical decision. We are talking about the 47th country that will join the Council of Europe and this means that there will be no more gray areas in Europe, that will be happy to be in the community of European countries. It is a mutual feeling that we have not seen on the part of Serbian politicians, therefore it is important for the Council of Europe to invite Kosovo and to have Kosovo as a member state in the Council of Europe and to stop these ambiguous situations where Kosovo has remained as a zone grey. I voted and I hope that this decision will be finalized in the Council of Ministers”.
During his speech at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Goncarenko called on Serbia to cut ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I addressed Serbia not only to distance themselves from Serbia, but the important thing is to distance themselves from imperialist goals and from the past. The era of empires is over, there is no place for Russian, Serbian or other empires in Europe and after they have accepted this they will have very good relations with Kosovo and can be part of the free world. But before they do, they will be a problem and I called on them to forget this part of history and build a democratic country, part of the free world, because this is the only way to develop, otherwise they will be trapped in poverty”.
According to the Ukrainian MP, Russia wants war and bloodshed in the Balkans.
“Russia wants to have a war in the Balkans and will push Serbia to do this and I think it is dangerous and therefore Serbia must understand that Russia wants chaos in the world and bloodshed in the Balkans and this is something that we must prevent”.
Asked about the blocking of Kosovar citizens at the border by Serbia, he said that Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe will help peace in the Balkans and prevent any conflict with Serbia.
“I know what is going to happen in the coming weeks, but Kosovo will become a member of the Council of Europe, it will help for peace in the Balkans and Kosovo will be recognized, it will be a member country of the European Assembly and it will prevent any conflict with Serbia. “NATO is the force that will make Serbia think twice before taking an inappropriate decision.”
Regarding the draft resolution that Oleksej Goncharenko submitted to the Ukrainian parliament, where he calls for the recognition of Kosovo, he says that nothing has happened and will not happen until the end of the war.
“Nothing happened. This has not yet been voted on in the Ukrainian parliament, it has not yet been rejected. Today Ukraine has great challenges and nothing is going to happen before the end of the war in Ukraine”.
