President-elect Donald Trump announced that he has selected Kari Lake, a former Fox News anchor and Republican, to head the Voice of America (VOA), the U.S. government-funded media outlet.

Trump stated that Lake would “ensure that America’s freedom-loving values are broadcast worldwide in a fair and accurate manner, in contrast to the lies spread by fake news media.”

Voice of America is an international media organization operating in more than 40 languages.

During his first term, Trump clashed with VOA, accusing the outlet of amplifying Chinese propaganda after it aired a “light show” segment marking the reopening of Wuhan, the city where the COVID-19 pandemic first erupted.
