Former U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of Moscow’s intention to respond to recent Ukrainian drone attacks, during what Trump described as a “serious but not conclusive” phone conversation.
According to a post on Trump’s platform Truth Social, the two leaders discussed the recent targeting of Russian military aircraft by Ukrainian forces, as well as broader military actions on both sides.
“It was a good conversation, but not one that will result in immediate peace,” Trump wrote.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Kremlin had already issued stern warnings, declaring that “military options are on the table” following deep Ukrainian strikes inside Russian territory. Moscow also accused the West—particularly the U.S. and the U.K.—of complicity in these attacks.
The Russian government urged Washington and London to rein in Kyiv, as Ukrainian officials openly praised the strikes, claiming they demonstrated the country’s enduring capability to fight, more than three years into the war.
American and British officials, however, denied any foreknowledge of the weekend attacks on Russia’s nuclear-capable bombers.
In his post, Trump also mentioned that his conversation with Putin extended beyond Ukraine. The two leaders reportedly discussed Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“I told President Putin that Iran must not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, and on that point, I believe we have an understanding,” Trump said, adding that Russia would participate in renewed nuclear negotiations with Tehran.
He further accused Iran of deliberately stalling progress in the diplomatic talks.
