The United States maintained approximately 80,000 troops stationed across Europe in 2025, according to estimates by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).

As part of a broader force realignment, the U.S. military presence in Poland is expected to increase by around 5,000 personnel, reinforcing NATO’s eastern flank.

At the same time, the U.S. contingent in Germany will be reduced by roughly 5,000 troops, while approximately 700 rotational troops will not be redeployed to Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria.

The troop adjustments reflect Washington’s ongoing effort to rebalance its military posture across Europe in response to evolving regional security priorities.
