Despite the presence of 117 MPs and a full quorum, today’s attempt to elect the Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly has once again failed.

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, reiterated that Albulena Haxhiu is not a unifying figure and that his party will not support her candidacy.

“This candidacy is holding us back. Vetëvendosje needs to come up with another solution. It would be in their own interest to propose someone who can bring the parties together and move the process forward,” Haradinaj said following the session.

He stressed that the country cannot remain indefinitely blocked and placed the blame for the stalemate on the party that lacks a majority:

“We can debate who is at fault, but ultimately, it falls on the one who doesn’t have the majority. As the opposition, we want to move forward, but this is not a normal situation for Kosovo.”

Asked whether his party would support Fatmir Limaj as Speaker of the Assembly, Haradinaj gave a firm response:

“I don’t believe he would get the Alliance’s vote.”

The political deadlock continues, with mounting pressure to find a consensus candidate acceptable to all sides.
