Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that Ukraine’s defense forces carried out a strike on an oil refinery in the Russian city of Saratov, approximately 700 kilometers from the front line.
According to Zelensky, the attack forms part of Ukraine’s long-term campaign targeting Russian energy infrastructure, which he described as “internal sanctions” against Russia.
He characterized the strike on the Saratov refinery as “an important result” and expressed gratitude to Ukrainian forces for carrying out the operation.
Zelensky also stated that during the same period, attacks were reported in Russia’s Rostov and Kirov regions, as well as against a military base located along the Caspian Sea coast.
According to the Ukrainian president, additional targets were struck in several Russian regions, including Yaroslavl, Ryazan, Voronezh, Volgograd, Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod, and Krasnodar, at varying distances from the Ukrainian border.
Meanwhile, media reports indicate that the strike on the Saratov refinery triggered a major fire within the facility following a drone attack.
Russian authorities have not yet released a detailed assessment of the damage caused by the incident.
