The Gaza Civil Defense Agency reported on May 4 that 16 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Palestinian territory, including three children.

Six people were killed during night-time attacks in Khan Younis, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, said agency spokesman Mahmoud Bassal. Among the dead were two young boys, aged five and two, when an airstrike hit a building in Al-Mavasi.

The agency later reported that ten people were killed in another airstrike on a tent in Al-Mavasi, including one child and seven women.

The Israeli military has yet to comment on these specific airstrikes, but in a statement released on Sunday morning, the Israeli military said it had struck over 100 terrorist targets across the Gaza Strip in the past two days.

Israel also claimed to have found weaponry and killed “a number of terrorists” in southern Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously stated that the airstrikes on Gaza, which have killed hundreds, were “just the beginning.”

Israel launched its military offensive in Gaza on March 18 after a two-month ceasefire in its ongoing war against Hamas, the Palestinian group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union. This offensive was prompted by an attack by the radical Palestinian group on Israel on October 7, 2023.

The Ministry of Health in Hamas-controlled Gaza has stated that at least 2,436 people have been killed since Israel resumed its campaign in Gaza, bringing the total number of victims to 52,535.

Israel has also blocked humanitarian aid shipments to Gaza, citing the blockade as a pressure tactic to force Hamas to release hostages taken during the October 7 attack, where nearly 1,200 people were killed and around 250 others were taken hostage.
