Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, emphasized the independence of the country’s financial institutions during his visit to an exhibition hosted at the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo.
Speaking at the exhibition titled “Paraja rrëfen” (“Money Tells the Story”), Kurti said that his presence at the institution marked his first visit to the Central Bank building, despite serving his third term as prime minister. He used the occasion to underline what he described as the government’s respect for institutional autonomy.
“I am here for the first time in this building, even though this is my third term as prime minister. Consider this as evidence that the Government of the Republic does not interfere with the Central Bank as an independent institution,” Kurti stated.
Government Stresses Institutional Independence
Kurti praised the exhibition’s title, noting that he preferred the Albanian-language version over its English translation. He also stressed that cooperation between institutions in Kosovo is not temporary or accidental, but rooted in historical development and strengthened through state-building processes.
According to the prime minister, central banks play a vital role in ensuring financial stability and maintaining public trust in state institutions.
Kosovo-Albania Institutional Cooperation Highlighted
Kurti also highlighted the broader cooperation between Kosovo and Albania, noting that the two governments have signed 58 agreements over the past four years, representing what he described as the highest level of institutional cooperation between the two countries.
He added that both the Central Bank of Kosovo and the Bank of Albania play a crucial role in safeguarding economic stability and strengthening financial confidence in their respective states.
Officials have frequently emphasized the importance of maintaining the independence of central banks as part of broader democratic and economic governance standards, particularly as Kosovo continues to develop its financial system and institutional framework.
