U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Iran may be behind a drone attack on a vital oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia, which was temporarily shut down following the incident.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that the East-West Pipeline had been struck the previous day by several drones originating from Iraq. The attack caused injuries and material damage, while the Ministry of Energy ordered the temporary closure of the pipeline as a precautionary measure.
Asked about the incident during his visit to Dublin on Saturday, Trump suggested that Tehran could be responsible for the attack.
“I think so, probably so,” Trump told reporters when asked whether Iran was behind the attack.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, as energy markets remain under pressure and maritime shipping faces major disruptions.
Meanwhile, the war with Iran continues without a clear resolution, while the Houthis, Tehran’s allies in Yemen, have expanded their control over strategic areas of the Red Sea.
However, responsibility for the attack has not yet been confirmed. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iran-backed militias, has denied any involvement in the attack.
