Scientific papers authored by Kosovo researchers are, in some cases, being registered as originating from Serbia on the international platform Scopus, which indexes academic publications and enables the evaluation of authors, journals and the impact of scientific research.
The situation is linked to the way the platform records data on academic institutions, where Serbia appears as the country associated with the University of Pristina, alongside the university’s name.
In September 2022, Scopus had recognised Kosovo by listing the country in the scientific publications of Kosovo researchers. However, in July 2023, Serbia’s name reappeared in publications authored by researchers from Kosovo.
Scopus is one of the world’s most recognised international databases of bibliographic records and scientific citations. It is widely used to index, search and analyse academic publications.
The University of Pristina uses this platform to document the scientific publications of its academic staff, making the accurate identification of Kosovo researchers and academic institutions particularly important.
