Vjosa Osmani has stated that the judicial proceedings against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) are unjust and, according to her, represent a broader judgment of Kosovo’s struggle for freedom and independence.
Speaking at the promotion of the book Kur heshtja flet by author Ahmet Shala, Osmani emphasized that the publication helps preserve collective memory and raises international moral awareness regarding freedom, justice, and dignity.
Criticism of Hague Proceedings
Referring to trials of former KLA leaders at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, Osmani argued that the proceedings extend beyond individuals and affect Kosovo’s historical and political legacy.
She stated that “our vital processes, including freedom, independence, and our liberation efforts undertaken in service of our people’s survival, are also being unjustly judged.”
Osmani stressed that Kosovo’s war was not impulsive but rather the result of long-standing efforts toward liberation. She warned that justice must be built on verified facts and impartiality, arguing that it loses legitimacy when shaped by what she described as false or one-sided narratives.
Concerns Over Historical Interpretation
According to Osmani, there are attempts to distort Kosovo’s historical experience through the legal proceedings. She emphasized that Kosovo’s history, marked by sacrifice and bloodshed, cannot be erased or altered by written claims that contradict historical realities.
Osmani also described the KLA as “one of the strongest ideals built by Albanians throughout centuries,” highlighting its symbolic importance in Kosovo’s path toward statehood.
The trials at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers continue to draw strong political and public reactions in Kosovo, reflecting ongoing debates over accountability, justice, and historical interpretation linked to the country’s conflict period.
