Iran has confirmed that its Defense Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces were killed during strikes carried out Saturday by the United States and Israel, according to Iranian state media.

General Abdolrahim Mousavi, who had been leading Iran’s armed forces since the killing of his predecessor during last June’s 12-day conflict, was killed in the attacks, the semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported.

Tasnim also confirmed the death of Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh in the same strikes.

Earlier, Iran had already confirmed the deaths of two other key figures: Major General Mohammad Pakpour, who led the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

The developments mark a significant escalation in regional tensions, with major implications for security dynamics across the Middle East.
