Lawmakers from the ruling Vetëvendosje and its coalition partners are the only deputies present in the parliamentary session called to elect the new President of Kosovo, after opposition parties decided to boycott the proceedings.
The extraordinary session of the Assembly of Kosovo was convened late Thursday night to vote for the country’s next head of state. However, opposition parties chose not to attend, leaving the governing majority alone in the chamber.
According to reports, 64 members of parliament are currently present, which meets the minimum quorum required to hold the session.
During the session, Vetëvendosje proposed two candidates for the presidency:
- Glauk Konjufca
- Fatmire Mulhaxha-Kollçaku
The vote comes just hours before the constitutional deadline for electing Kosovo’s president, increasing political pressure on lawmakers to complete the process.
The boycott by opposition parties reflects deep political divisions in Kosovo’s parliament, with tensions rising over both the candidates and the broader political process surrounding the presidential election.
Further developments are expected as the session continues in Prishtina.
