Albanian authorities have dismantled a firearms trafficking group operating in Tirana, seizing six pistols allegedly smuggled from Montenegro and arresting two suspects.
The operation, codenamed “Rotondo”, followed a two-month investigation carried out in coordination with the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office and local police units.
“As a result of a two-month proactive investigation targeting illegal trafficking and sale of firearms, the operation successfully identified and arrested key suspects,” Albanian police reported.
During the operation, 31-year-old D.J. from Shkodër and 22-year-old F.G. from Domje were caught in the act while transporting firearms in a vehicle. The police stopped the car near Rrethi i Freskut, where officers discovered six SigSauer pistols allegedly trafficked from Montenegro, along with four mobile phones. The vehicle, a Volkswagen, was also confiscated.
Albanian authorities have also identified and issued a warrant for a collaborator of the two arrested suspects.
This operation underscores Albania’s continued efforts to combat organized crime and illegal arms trafficking in the region.
